At 665 square miles, the City of Houston is larger in area than the cities of Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, and San Diego.
The nine-county Houston MSA had a population of 7,206,841 residents as of July 1, 2021, according to estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Houston is ranked second only to New York in the number of theater seats and is one of the few cities in the nation with resident companies in drama, ballet, opera, and orchestra. The Theater District, located at the gateway to Downtown, serves as a showcase for nine, world-class performing arts organizations. Greater Houston has more than 150 museums and cultural organizations. Nineteen can be found in the centrally located Museum District.
